Philosophy

By creating a safe and supportive learning environment and working with students on an individual basis to develop a personal learning plan which fits each student’s specific needs, my students will be able to express their passion and creativity for learning and explore their curiosity through inquiry.

I believe in fostering passion and curiosity in my students and teaching them to be motivated and driven life-long learners by modeling my own excitement and enthusiasm for learning. I often share my own questions and curiosity with my students as a reminder that I am a more than just a teacher; I’m a learner as well.

I believe in the necessity to work with students on an individual basis to help them perform and reach their fullest potential. It is important to identify the physical, social, and mental needs of each student as well as methods that will meet each of these needs. This includes incorporating a variety of learning styles into my teaching and taking into account the interests and abilities of my students.

I believe that children thrive in nurturing and caring environments. From the first day of school I help students to take ownership of the classroom, encourage healthy peer-friendship, and begin building a personal relationship with each of my students.

“The whole art of teaching is the only art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards; and curiosity itself can be vivid and wholes only in proportion as the mind is contented and happy”              –Anatole France
