Explanation of when/where/how I met the appropriate level of mastery

a. Understand the structure, function , purpose, and value of education and schools in a free, democratic, and pluralistic society;

In Education 202 we learned about the history of the education system and attended a local school board meeting.

b. Synthesize a teacher’s role in a changing society with the evolution of education foundations and policy perspectives;

I’ve learned that it is crucial to be up-to-date on education policies through education classes and I have seen it first-hand how this works in my student teaching placement.

c. Demonstrate an understanding of and participate in related organizations and activities in the communities in which the teacher works;

e. Design learning activities for students that involve volunteer groups, civic and social organizations, and relevant public service agencies, and  

During my student teaching I created lessons which taught my students about being good citizens. We often had open discussion about how we can be a good citizen in our classes, school and city.

f. Participate with professional educators, school personnel, and other stakeholders in collaborative and cooperative planning, decision-making, and implementation, to improve educational systems at all levels.  

I attended monthly SIP (School Improvement Plan) meetings with the faculty of Harrington during my student teaching.
